Aconite-A Must Have

If there were one remedy I would recommend you own and have several different potencies, it would be Aconitum napellus (Aconite for short). It is quick-acting, and often, using it first, many ailments can be stopped with just a dose or two of this remedy.

Aconite is commonly known as monkshood or wolfsbane. This homeopathic remedy is prepared from the whole plant monkshood with root during flowering through potentization. It is a process of preparing homeopathic medicines that extract medicinal properties from crude substances. And while ingesting wolfsbane isn’t safe or beneficial to your health, diluting it into a homeopathic remedy hits entirely differently in the body. It is a valuable remedy to manage numerous complaints occurring from exposure to dry, cold air/wind and to manage anxiety, panic attacks, and various sorts of fears.

Clinical Indications

Anxiety, panic attacks, fear, cold, sneezing, epistaxis (nose bleeding), fever, cough, conjunctivitis, earache, noises in the ear (tinnitus), trigeminal neuralgia, throat inflammation, tonsillitis, laryngitis, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, sleeplessness (insomnia), palpitations, pericarditis, hypertrophy of the heart.

This remedy acts on multiple organs and treats numerous related conditions and diseases. Its main action is seen in the mind, nose, eyes, and respiratory tract, among other organs. Rest also acts well on ears, face, throat, mouth, tongue, limbs, and heart.

This medicine is suitable for people with a nervous nature and those having a sedentary life. It suits well anxious persons and those having fears and a predisposition to panic attacks.

What a fright! Grab the Aconite!

Aconite is renowned for its ability to calm after a shock, whether mental or physical. Once, I received a phone call that all parents dread, “Mom, I had a car wreck,” while she was sobbing. I grabbed my homeopathic first aid kit and immediately left to be with her. In the meantime, I took a dose of Aconite 200 to help calm me down before I got to her. I gave her a dose as soon as I saw her. However, my husband wouldn’t let me give some to the others involved in the accident. He said I was weird. Whatever.

I have also met several moms at urgent care or emergency rooms when their little ones had an emergency. I would give the child AND to the mom. Because watching your child get hurt is hugely shocking!

Aconite is the first remedy you should grab when your family member says, “I think I’m coming down with something.” There has been a shock to their bodies in the form of a virus. Often, they take a dose or two of Aconite and stop complaining. And because it works so well, you might hear, “I guess I wasn’t getting sick after all.” But you and I know it was the homeopathy.

Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Fear

Aconite has a wide sphere of action in mind to settle many complaints and manage anxiety, panic attacks, and fears. People needing it have significant anxiety and restlessness. They do everything in great haste and tend towards panic attacks, too. They have anxiety, palpitations, shaking, and trembling. One of the main fears is death. I once treated a mom who was scheduled for her third c-section. The second surgery was very traumatic.

There are lots of fears for which it is indicated. The main one is fear of death with feeling as if a person were to die soon, so strong is this fear. Next is fear of the dark and ghosts. Another prominent fear is of crowds, where a person is afraid of going out of the house. Sometimes, fainting can occur. There is often numbness and tingling in the fingers with the panic or fear.
It is a top-grade medicine for managing complaints of fright, emotional shocks, and anger. Other noteworthy features indicating its use are oversensitivity to pain, sadness from listening to music, mood swings between happiness and sadness, and delirium (sudden confusion and change in mental status).

When the Cold Happens

Aconite has a marked action on the nose, which is most beneficial for managing colds and sneezing. It is an infallible medicine for treating colds that follow exposure to cold, dry air. There is a runny nose and excessive sneezing—other ways there may be stopped up dry nose with slight discharge. There is a fever, a headache, and a cold.

What about the Eyes?

With its action on the eyes, it helps manage various complaints. First among these is conjunctivitis. It refers to inflammation of the conjunctiva, a transparent membrane covering the eyelid and white part of the eye. In such cases, it helps in the initial stages when there is no discharge, but there is redness, heat, and dryness of the eyes with pain that can be burning, pressure, or shooting. There is a sensation of sand in the eyes. It may follow exposure to cold, dry wind. 

The next important feature that points towards its use is eye inflammation from dust, a foreign body in the eyes, or after surgery. It can also be used for eyelid swelling when the eyelids are red, hard, and swollen with a tense feeling. It also covers complaints of excessive eye watering from exposure to dry, cold winds and from snow reflection. 

Listen Up, Ears!

This remedy can be given to manage some ear problems. It works well to manage ear pain, which can be sharp or tearing. The external ear is red, painful, warm, and swollen. Next, it works wonders in otitis media cases (inflammation or infection of the middle ear). Further, this medicine can be given in cases of noises in the ear, such as roaring, ringing, buzzing, or humming noises. 

A Shock to the Face

Aconite is effective in treating trigeminal neuralgia and alleviating facial pain. Trigeminal neuralgia is a sudden shooting or electric shock-like facial pain from pressure over the trigeminal nerve or its damage. There is pain on the left side of the face with redness and heat; it is a magnificent medicine to manage it. The pain is intense and can make a person scream. Anxiety and restlessness occur with this. Numbness and tingling in the face accompany it. A crawling and creeping sensation may also occur on the face.

Mouth and Throat Pain

It is of great value in treating throat inflammation, tonsillitis, and laryngitis. It is indicated when there is throat inflammation, dark redness, and high fever. The tonsils and palate look dark red. Tonsils are dry and swollen. There is stinging, burning pain in the throat, and difficulty swallowing. This remedy is also known to be of service in laryngitis cases. Laryngitis is inflammation of the larynx or the voice box. It helps when there is hoarseness and a husky voice in such cases. It may be attended with pain when talking. The larynx is sensitive, and fever may accompany it.

It is helpful for cases of bitter taste in the mouth, dryness, or burning sensation. Everything except water has a bitter taste. Another indication is tingling and numbness of the lips. A burning sensation can accompany it. Other guiding features are related to the tongue and include a coated tongue, swollen tongue, tingling/prickling on the tongue, numbness, and burning on the tongue. The tongue is coated white or yellowish-white and maybe dry or red. Burning and tingling on the tip of the tongue are present.

Cough, Asthma, Pneumonia, etc.

Aconite is effective in treating numerous concerns related to the respiratory system. Out of these, chiefly, it is indicated for managing cough. Cough occurring after exposure to dry, cold air or wind is a classic indication of its use. It has shown significant clinical improvements when the cough is short, hoarse, dry, barking, and hacking type.  It is a loud cough, and labored breathing may occur with this. Its other clinical indications are asthma, bronchitis (inflammation of the lining of bronchial tubes), and pneumonia (inflammation of air sacs of the lungs). There is shortness of breath and the sensation of a band around the chest. Rusty, frothy mucus, or white mucus with blood streaks can appear. Lastly, stitching pain in the chest can be felt when breathing or coughing.

When You Get All Hot and Bothered-Fever

While I highly recommend you don’t treat a fever, and it is left to burn, we can support the body as it is healing. One way to do that is using Aconite. It is a magnificent remedy for inflammatory fever, such as fever with throat inflammation. It is typically indicated for the first stage of fever. There is very hot, burning skin where it is required, and the face is red or red and pale alternately. Coldness may alternate with heat. In some cases, the cold stage predominates. There is anxiety, restlessness, and excessive thirst for water. 

When Sleep Hides from You

Aconite is extremely helpful for managing some sleep problems. To begin with, it is a leading remedy for sleeplessness that results from anxiety or some fright. There is restlessness and tossing about in bed. People are sleepless, mainly after midnight. Also, it is well-suited for elderly people to manage their concerns about sleeplessness. It can also be given to those who get nightmares and to those who tend to startle in sleep. 

Joint Inflammation

I’ve mentioned it already, but Aconite works well for complaints of numbness and tingling in the limbs. A person may complain of shooting pain in limbs. It can improve the twitching of fingers and toes. Additionally, it is indicated for joint inflammation. The joints are swollen, red, shiny, and sensitive to slight contact. Complaints are worse in the evening and at night.

At the Heart of the Matter

Its use is also recommended for specific heart issues. This remedy can help cases of palpitations, which may be from motion, fright, or smoking. The pulse is fast, hard, and bounding. It can be given for heart pain extending to the left shoulder. Its use is indicated for pericarditis, an inflammation surrounding the heart’s lining. In such heart has stitching pain and a strong, strong pulse in such cases, it is well-indicated for hypertrophy of the heart.

Dosage
