Imagine you are in line at the grocery store. Your toddler has been well-behaved throughout the shopping trip. But the trip has taken longer than expected because you’re reading all the labels and trying to make the best choices. When you’ve reached the checkout, your toddler has let you know she’s done sitting in the same spot. Unfortunately, only one checker is working (or is this only an issue at my grocery store?), and she’s moving very slowly. When it’s finally time to get your groceries checked out, your toddler loudly screams and cries. What do you do, Mama? Reach in your purse and grab Chamomilla. Give her a few pellets and the tantrum is instantly gone! Chamomilla really is a mom’s best friend!
Please, Tell Me More
Chamomilla is a homeopathic remedy made from the same flower you drink in your tea, the Chamomile flower. Like tea, it has calming properties that work wonders for temper tantrums. One of my daughters called not too long ago to tell me how frustrated she was with her child. I suggested she try a dose of Chamomilla. I couldn’t see her, but her voice sounded like she may have rolled her eyes. I’m not accusing anyone of anything. I’m just saying it sounded that way. Maybe it’s because I always recommend Chamomilla when a mom is frustrated! Within half an hour, she called me back to say that if she ever gets a tattoo, it’ll be of Chamomilla because her child instantly calmed down and was sweetly playing on the floor.
One Remedy, 100 Uses
Chamomilla is one of the most often used remedies, and for good reason. It has 100 different uses! It really shines in childhood—so much so that adults often forget about using it.
It’s great for teething pain and fussiness. The baby may or may not be running a fever with the teething. But they are fussy! They only want comfort and are very demanding. They will ask for an item and then throw it on the floor.
Chamomilla works wonders on general temper tantrums, no matter the age. It works great for extreme anger. I once gave it to an older child who was too old for such behavior. Irritability, fussing, whining, and moaning a few adjectives that fit a Chamomilla picture. A few pellets, and they generally calm down.
It works well for colic and gas pains. For babies and grown-ups alike. The abdomen can be distended along with the passing of gas. The pain is better from warm applications.
I’ve used it recently while attending labor and delivery. It affects the mom who is biting others during contractions. The pains are intolerable, and she may even send everyone out of the room: doctors, midwives, and nurses. It’s also wonderful for menstrual cramps that come and go in waves like labor.
If you’ve ever had a caffeine headache, keep Chamomilla handy. It’s the number one remedy for head pain from lack of caffeine.
Famous For Earaches
It is the number one remedy to grab when there is an earache. I once had an earache that was so severe and had so much pain that I started planning my funeral. I convinced my daughter (who thought I was being overly dramatic) that I needed to go to urgent care. “This will show her,” I thought. “The doctor will confirm that it is the most severe ear infection he has ever seen.” You can imagine my surprise when he told me that my ear was slightly red, handed me a prescription for an antibiotic, and had me pay $200-ish at the door. On the way home, I remembered that Chamomilla works wonders on earaches and when the person is hypersensitive to pain. This means pain that shouldn’t be that bad, but the person feels it at a 7 out of 10. I took one dose of it, instantly fell asleep, and awoke feeling like a new person. I put those funeral plans on the backburner.
Trouble Sleeping?
My teenage son loves Chamomilla. He said he has trouble falling asleep due to swirling thoughts. He keeps a bottle of Chamomilla near his bed so that he can take a dose on those nights when he’s struggling to calm his mind. It helps those with occasional insomnia, even babies who struggle to relax sometimes.
Like a Weed
If I know what the remedy is made from, it is easier for me to remember how it functions in the body. Chamomile is really a tenacious plant. It will grow in cracks of the sidewalk. Like a weed, growing where and when it wants. It helps me to think of the suffering in the same manner. They are cranky, fussy, and want what they want.
This is a great remedy to have several bottles of and keep them in your purse, diaper bag, by the bed, and in the holestic medicine cabinet.

What a great post! I seriously don’t know why I don’t think of it very often or sometimes think of it, but then dismiss is as “not strong enough” for the ailment. I’m checking my stock now!
And, please tell me you didn’t take the antibiotic… ; )
emily
Oh no I didn’t take the antibiotic. There was no need after the Chamomilla did the trick!

For quick relief, would you suggest 30c or 200?
emily
Definitely start with a 30c. Gives you a place to go!
Stacy
I’m gonna give this a try for sleeping. Thanks!
