I know it’s a strange way to start a blog about homeopathy. But, my journey to this amazing medicine began with carrots.
My oldest child was a sickly kid. I couldn’t understand why. During my pregnancy with her, I drank a Route 44 vanilla Dr. Pepper from Sonic daily, with the permission of my OB. I was put on antibiotics during my pregnancy because my voice dropped an octave (no pain, just a new deep voice); the OB said it was from strep throat. I delivered her in the safest place on earth, the hospital. Once born, my precious baby had the recommended silver nitrate put in her eyes and was given her first set of recommended jabs shortly after. I took her to every recommended well-child visit. She had all of her recommended jabs. I sleep trained her to the minute so she and I would be well-rested. That resulted in a total loss of breast milk and I gave her the recommended powdered formula. (I know this is my first post and we probably don’t know each other well. So, I want to point out that it was typed in a very sarcastic tone. My point is that she had all the things the health professionals had recommended.)
But she was always sick. She had numerous respiratory infections…each with its accessory antibiotic. She had projectile vomiting for months. She had RSV at 8 months…with its own antibiotics, steroids, and breathing treatments. She had multiple ear infections…with, you guessed it, more antibiotics.
By the time she outgrew all the infections she was diagnosed with multiple allergies which resulted in allergy shots. She also had yearly strep infections and the obligatory annual antibiotic.
As the allergy shots continued, so did her anxiety over having to have them. One day she literally clung to the car, the door, the pillar and me to avoid having to get them. I had had enough. So had she.
I was at a loss of what to do. How could I help my sweet girl? I googled, “What foods strengthen the immune system?” That was a very long rabbit hole. I learned that carrots are very good for fighting strep. I fed us a lot of carrots.
I learned whole foods would help her. So, I started cooking and doing everything in the kitchen I could to help heal my girl. It helped, but not enough.
I have always been fascinated by herbs. I love the idea of being able to grow my own medicine and treat my family myself. I started to research herbs and herbal medicines. I took a class by Shonda Parker. She was amazing! And if you want to learn more about herbs, please check out her books. But there are warnings attached. You had to know how much your child or husband weighed and the medicine was adjusted for that number. That frightened me. Numbers are not my thing.
From there I learned about homeopathy. And I. Fell. In. Love.
Homeopathy is the medicine I had been searching for all that time. It is safe. It is non-toxic. It works immediately in acute situations. It has zero side-effects. It’s been around for hundreds of years with no recalls.
This is it, I thought. I could help my family without getting back into the medical carnival.
And I have. I have helped my family and many more with these little white pellets. In the past 17 years, antibiotics have been given to my children 3 times. And I have 9 children. My 10-year-old daughter has never been to the doctor. Not that she hasn’t had illnesses. She has. But homeopathy handled it.
I absolutely, positively love homeopathy. I love to use it. I love to study it. I love to teach it. I love to talk about it.
I am here to share that love and knowledge. I have this little corner of the internet. I teach a beginner’s class, called Legacy of Healing, for those who would like to learn about homeopathy and how to use it for their family. I have a monthly study group where we can help each other grow and learn. I also see a limited number of clients.
And to think….carrots.
