I seem to use this blog as a confession booth. So, here’s another confession. I don’t love the holidays. The lights and decorations don’t seem like magic. Gift-giving isn’t fun. I find the whole thing stressful and overwhelming. And frankly, I am happiest when it’s all over and put away. There, I admitted to being a Scrooge. Sometimes, as a homeopath, I am the last person to get remedies. I usually forget to use them on myself! However, this year, I planned, knowing I would need some remedies to get me through. I looked up remedies for overwhelmed moms (funny enough, my picture WAS next to the definition) and was prepared. This holiday has been hectic as always, but I am less Scrooge. It’s not quite Buddy the Elf, but that’s okay. He’s a lot.
Planning For Success
I used to be much more of a planner. Our homeschool would be planned a year in advance, including science experiments! My babies slept on a schedule. I even had a chart that outlined our day in 15-minute increments! But now….I’m just tired and am winging it. My school is planned for six weeks at a time. My last five babies had zero schedules. And our day is planned in loose time blocks. However, preparing and planning for that overwhelming feeling of motherhood at Christmas was a game changer this year.
We have a heavy mental burden during the holidays. Honestly, it doesn’t matter if we have a big, small, or no family; the holidays present a heavier and different stress than any other time of the year. You all know what I’m talking about. We are Santa, party planner, and eventually overwhelmed moms.
I knew I would get overwhelmed, so I started Christmas planning in July! I was able to purchase gifts slowly. My homeopathy practice has been closed for the whole month of December. That one took some scheduling acrobatics, but I pulled it off. So my days are not consumed with the normal and holiday to-dos.
Homeopathic Remedies to Have on Hand
I also purchased and lined up a few remedies on hand and around the house.
First, for us mothers is Sepia. It’s a great remedy when we shut down our feelings and start feeling indifferent to our loved ones or duties. When we need Sepia, we will start to distract and turn off. Maybe scrolling through our phones for hours. Maybe getting lost in movies or books. Anything so we’re not dealing with the life in front of us. I also find myself being short-tempered with my children and their questions.
Second, is Pulsatilla. The overwhelmed moms needing Pulsatilla is less indifferent than Sepia and far more weepy. We’re usually very sentimental and cry at commercials or seeing our children’s ornaments from years ago. We can’t express our feelings because it all makes us cry.
Third, Nux vomica. The overwhelmed moms needing Nux are the ultimate planners. They use coffee as a crutch to get through the day. They require everything to go exactly as planned.
Homeopathic Blends for Overwhelmed Moms
Fourthly, Rescue Remedy. This blend of flower essences is a total game-changer for this stressful season. Add four drops to your water and sip on it throughout the day. I keep this bottle by my bed, in my purse, in my office….you get the idea. I often give it away as a gift too!
And lastly, a blend I just learned about and must share! It’s called Emotional Detox. I found it on Amazon (I do not have an affiliation with Amazon) after a fellow homeopath recommended it. I love this spray! It blends flower essences, cell salts, and gem essences (these are remedies made from the plant bud). It is said to help ease daily stress, restlessness, melancholy, and physical and mental fatigue. One spray in my mouth and I instantly feel a calm feeling spread. Currently, I have my bottle near the gift-wrapping supplies. I will be adding more bottles to my home, I have no doubt.
Emotional Healing
Ultimately, prayer is what we all need to manage our stress. No amount of planning, remedies, or systems will heal our emotions like going to the throne of Jesus. He is our Creator and our Healer. I am so thankful for that. He has also given us these homeopathic remedies to help take us from overwhelmed moms to a calmer version.

Thank you for keeping our Lord foremost. Lord Jesus is our ultimate Healer 💜 Time alone with Him in His Word and in prayer works wonderful miracles 🙌 And, when the distractions or emotions are too much, His beautiful, natural medicine, homeopathy, lends a helping hand along with quiet time with our Father!!
Rescue Remedy has been helpful for us! However, this Emotional Detox looks very interesting 👍 Adding it to my toolkit!!
Prayers for a very merry & joy-filled Christmas for the whole Frye family🕯💜🕯
