Morning sickness is a difficult season of pregnancy. I had my fair share of it during my many pregnancies. Fortunately, homeopathy for morning sickness is a safe and non-toxic option for mothers. There are several remedies for morning sickness. I have narrowed it down to the top 5 remedies.
Morning sickness, which can actually last all day, is nausea and/or vomiting that may occur in the first trimester or anytime during the pregnancy. It is caused by the increased hormones a mother’s body produces to sustain the pregnancy. At night as the stomach empties and progesterone levels rise, it creates a perfect storm in the morning.
There are several medications on the market that are given to women to help with the nausea and vomiting that come with early pregnancy. However, they come with side effects. Frankly, most medications given to pregnant women are untested and unproven. Homeopathy for morning sickness has none of these issues. It is 100% safe for the growing baby. In fact, pregnancy is a great time to start using homeopathy!
What to Expect
If you have correctly matched your symptoms, you can expect relief from your symptoms as the remedy helps the body to better manage the changing hormones. If you have not matched your symptoms to the correct remedy, it is possible that nothing will happen and then you need to come back and see if there is a better fit.
Sometimes, nausea completely disappears with a dose or two of the correct remedy. Sometimes numerous doses are needed over the course of a couple of weeks. If you have seen improvement, stick with that remedy. If you experience relief from the remedy, do not take any more until your symptoms return, and then take another dose. Do not take it if you are not experiencing symptoms.
Using the Cell Salt Protocol will help to ease nausea as well. For some women, their prenatal vitamin is the cause behind their nausea and vomiting. This is due to the synthetic iron supplement in it. Their livers just don’t process it well. Speak with your healthcare provider to find alternatives.
There are a lot of Remedies!
I have researched this for many moms. There are many remedies for morning sickness. But, when you are hugging the vomit bag and spending your day on the sofa you do not want to wade through 18+ remedies to find the right one. I have listed the top 5. However, if you don’t find relief with these know that there are more out there. Contact your homeopath or me to help you find the one you need.
Homeopathy for Morning Sickness
These remedies may be helpful for you if you have some/most of the symptoms listed.
- Sepia – Nausea is worse in the morning on rising or in the evening until bedtime. The stomach feels empty with pain. Even the thought or smell of food causes nausea. There is a constant, bad taste in the mouth. Cravings for pickles, vinegary foods, and sweets. Emotionally there may be feelings of indifference, sadness, and even depression.
- Pulsatilla – The nausea is constant, but worse in late afternoon and evening. Nausea is worse after eating, but better from the open air. Cravings for rich, sweet, and fatty foods (think ice cream), but they make the nausea worse. There is little to no thirst and there is a bitter taste in the mouth. Emotionally there may be feelings of needing comfort and reassurance along with weepiness and moodiness.
- Nux vomica – The nausea is strong and constant, especially in bed on waking up, but unable to vomit. However, if able to vomit the nausea lessens for a time. There is a lot of saliva with the nausea accompanied by a sour taste in the mouth. There is a ravenous appetite, but a general feeling of nausea after eating. Emotionally, there may be feelings of irritation and easily offended.
- Ipecac – The nausea is persistent and constant. Another keynote is that with this remedy the nausea is NOT relieved by vomiting. Additionally, it lasts all day with an extreme amount of saliva. Think of this remedy for persistent nausea that causes the mom to not eat or drink and she must go for IV fluids.
- Tabacum – The nausea is constant and violent. It is worse in a warm room, from motion, and from the smell of tobacco smoke. The accompanying vomiting is exhausting and is paired with paleness and icy coldness. Fresh air helps with nausea but makes dizziness worse.

I *just* started using nux vomica this week for help with i te se nausea and I think it’s actually helping! So nice to have a bit of relief and be able to function again! It’s not 100% gone, so should I keep taking the remedy till it is or stop since most of it has abated?
emily
I think you should continue taking it on an as needed basis. You’ll probably need it less and less. Praise the Lord it’s helping!
Jordan
Ok thanks!

What strength of Sepia should I be taking? I see 30c most commonly. Thank you!
emily
Start with 30c. If you need more tweaking, you might reach out to a homeoapath for help.
