Homeopathy is really enough to recover from surgery. I have listed out the six remedies you need to have on hand to use both before and after surgery. You can use the painkillers you are prescribed when you leave the hospital. But…..you don’t have to! I have used only homeopathy with several family members as their only pain relief. All with high effectiveness and zero side effects that often accompany prescribed painkillers.

The most common drug prescribed after surgery is in the opium family; Codeine, Hydrocodone, Vicodin, Hydromorphone, Demerol, Morphine, Oxycodone, and Propoxyphene. The most common side effect of these drugs is constipation which affects nearly everyone who takes them. That’s a troubling side effect to deal with when you’ve had any surgery, especially abdominal surgery. But the drugs can also cause nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, itching or sweating, depression, and a weakened immune system
Opioid painkillers can cause someone to stop breathing. They’re addictive and have become widely abused. We now even have an “Opioid Crisis.” The Department of Agriculture says in this article that this crisis affects ALL Americans.
The Beauty of Homeopathy
Among the hundreds of reasons I love homeopathy, I love that it has zero side effects. This elegant medicine has been in use since before the 1840s. And never in all that time has anyone ever died from taking homeopathy. No one has ever stopped breathing. Not one single case of nausea, itching, sweating, or depression. Never has it weakened anyone’s immune system. And regardless of the efforts of thousands of homeopaths, there has yet to be a “Homeopathic Crisis” in America.
I have used homeopathy myself, for my children, for my family, and for several clients to recover from surgery. Not just recover but thrive after surgery. We all had similar experiences of pain relief and healing without the scary other effects of prescription painkillers.
Side effects are merely effects of a drug we don’t want. However, just saying you don’t like an effect and calling it “side” doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
Which 6 Remedies Do You Need on Hand?
You need to have these remedies on hand for surgery healing. I have listed my favorite six.
- Arnica – our favorite pain reliever. It helps to reduce bleeding, bruising, and to heal the trauma done to the body. Yes, there is trauma. Just because you meant to have surgery and just because you were under anesthesia doesn’t mean the body didn’t experience trauma. It’s just a planned trauma. Take arnica 2-3 times the day before surgery. Then alternate it with hypericum after waking up from the anesthesia.
- Hypericum – for nerve damage/pain. Once the skin is cut nerve signals alert the brain that we. have. pain. This remedy is great for the initial pain and also for the shooting pains that can sometimes happen during the healing process. Alternate with arnica for pain relief as needed.
- Ledum – for puncture wounds. So many surgeries are done laparoscopically these days. Let’s not forget the IV. These are all puncture wounds. I suggest taking this 2-3 times after surgery to heal those.
- Staphysagria – for cuts, especially abdominal cuts. This remedy will speed healing and help prevent infection, eliminating the need for antibiotics. Take this 3-4 times after surgery over the course of a day or two. If the incision starts to look red, puff, or angry, take the remedy more frequently until it is nice and pink again.
- Lycopodium – for constipation caused by general anesthesia. I am a maverick. But, even I would not have surgery without anesthesia. So, this is a good one to have on hand.
- Phosphorus – nausea caused by general anesthesia. Many people experience nausea right after surgery. However, the vomiting action is murder on any abdominal incisions. Keep Phosphorus handy to reduce the side effects of the anesthesia.

How to
I like making small kits for people to take with them to the hospital. I have used all sorts of containers like small tins, bags, etc. I put little bottles of the remedies that are labeled with the remedy and what it’s used for in this situation. Then I will put a paper with how often to take the remedies.
I created a printable page HERE for you to download and use to make up your own surgery kit. Hopefully, it will come in handy for you or a loved one.
Let me know if you have used homeopathy after surgery. Would you add any remedies to this list?

These are the remedies you suggested after my daughters stitches. In less than two weeks, the puncture wounds are almost completely gone. Her scar is healing amazingly. Thank you so much for your care of us.
I used several of these after my last c-section, and they made a huge a difference in my recovery compared to previous c-sections. Thank you so much for an amazing kit!
