I love camping. As a kid it’s a magical time of outdoor freedom; as an adult, it’s doing all the things I do at home, but without running water and electricity. Not quite the same freedom; but, I do it now so that my children will have those magical memories of the outdoors. Now, I bring my homeopathy kit to take care of any health issues that might pop up. Camping and homeopathy go beautifully together.

I grew up camping with my family and I couldn’t wait to camp with my own family. We just got back from a camping trip and how I used homeopathy is fresh on my mind. Figuring out what remedies to bring can add a layer of stress. When you’re packing for a weekend where you are pretending to be homeless, what remedies should you bring? All of them? What’s most important?
Always be prepared
During our recent camping trip, we had an avocado accident. One that involved an avocado pit, a pocket knife, and a stabbing. Our supplies were packed and we were eating up all the leftovers when suddenly one of the older children rushed over to me with a hand full of blood. First, I washed off her hand to discover the extent of her injury. Then, I had my husband grab my first aid kit and my first aid homeopathy kit.

I asked first for the Aconite. The injured got a dose and I got a dose. Aconite is amazing for its ability to calm down the shock of what you’ve just seen. It helped to focus me on the matter and not worry about my child. In fact, it was very useful over the next few days as she would relive the stabbing moment in her mind. I would give her another dose of Aconite and again it helped her to focus on what was in front of her.
Next, I asked for the Arnica to slow down the bleeding. Her hand kept bleeding and I needed to see if we needed to head to the emergency room. Within seconds the bleeding slowed significantly and I could see that we could use bandages at home without needing to go to the ER. I also used Arnica for the bruised feeling after sleeping on an air mattress. I don’t remember feeling bruised all over when I went camping as a kid and slept in a sleeping bag on the ground. But, alas.
Following Arnica, I asked for Ledum for the puncture wound. It was a stab to the hand—a literal definition of a puncture wound. Ledum is also great for bites from mosquitoes, animals, or even a little brother or sister.
What other remedies should you have?
Reach first for Apis if you or your little one encounter fire ants or bees. If the wound is hot to the touch and looks red, Apis is your go-to.
While we’re talking about bites, spider bites or snake bites will be helped by Lachesis. I will be honest, a snake bite would definitely send us to the hospital. But, I would give Lachesis and Ledum on our way!
Be sure to also pack Cantharis and Urtica urens. Both are great for burn accidents which happen more often when camping.

While not a remedy, you will want to have Calendula Salve with you. It will help heal burns, bites, stings, or any rash from the outside. Click HERE to find a free recipe to make your own.
If you or your crew get into poison ivy, be sure to have Rhus tox on hand. I have found it is most helpful for the rash of poison ivy when used in low potency. Also, a paste made of baking soda and olive oil will soothe the skin.
My children loved the freedom to roam and pretend to be adventurers. Sometimes those adventures ended in head injuries. Because they’re my children and we are not blessed with good balance. I always keep Nat sulph on hand to heal the head. If your child is severely injured, give this on the way to the hospital.
And lastly, what about insomnia? You know, from sleeping in a new place with new sounds? Chamomilla will help. For the kids that are too excited to sleep? Reach for the Coffea. Even though it’s made from coffee, the remedy calms down the child.
I hope this list helps. Camping and homeopathy are a great pair! What remedies do you take camping with you that I left off? Let me know below. Be sure to get the camping and homeopathy download to take on your next camping trip.
This is great! So many memories and great adventures with camping. Nux vomica would be added to our camping remedies to help with tummies after snacking on foods we are not used to having, like “S’mores.”
Oh! Nux is a good one to remember too!
