The postpartum season can be just as intense as the pregnancy! It is full of new needs, not just for the mom, but also for the newborn. I have compiled my top 10 remedies for the postpartum mom to use.
My oldest 3 daughters have blessed us with three babies within 9 months. My nieces have blessed our family with 3 new babies within 10 months. If you’re counting, that’s 6 new babies in our family in the past 10 months. I have been reading and learning a LOT about remedies for pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Using Miranda Castro’s book, Homeopathy for Pregnancy, Birth, and Your Baby’s First Year, Richard Moskowitz’s book, Homeopathic Medicines for Pregnancy and Childbirth, and my own experiences, I created kits for all 6 mothers. And even a couple of kits for friends who have just had babies. If you wanted to make a kit for yourself, you could purchase a digital download of the booklet I used. The download has 25 remedies.
Remedies for the Postpartum Mom
- Aconite-I gave this to my babies before we even cut the cord! I also took a dose. I know I was experiencing shock as evidenced by the shaking and overwhelmed feeling immediately after giving birth. And while none of my babies told me so, I assumed they, too, were experiencing a shock.
- Arnica-Heals bruises for both mother and baby. It is also great to manage after-birth pains.
- Belladonna-Engorged breasts, high fevers, mastitis, or ear infections. This one is so nice to have when things are bright red with high fevers.
- Bellis per-A deeper Arnica. It heals deep bruises, but it also is a uterus toner. It’s very important to take this several times after delivery to heal any damage that may have occurred to the bladder during pregnancy or labor.
- Borax-This is the #1 remedy for thrush. Even when antibiotics are not used during pregnancy or labor, thrush can develop. It is a nightmare for the nursing mom.
- Chamomilla-Our #1 for teething and ear infections. This one is a must-have for all moms. I used to keep a bottle of this one in my diaper bag, near where I changed diapers, on my bedside table. You get the idea.
- Chelidonium-Jaundice. This word can strike fear in all new parents. I used this remedy on my grandson and within 15 minutes the redness that can develop disappeared. It was amazing to watch!
- Colocynthis-For a colicky baby. The baby pulls their little knees up and cries in pain. It just breaks your heart and makes you want to pull your hair out!
- Hypericum-For a painful tailbone after delivery and hemorrhoids that can develop. It’s the best remedy for all nerve pain. One of my daughters was constantly smashing her fingers as a toddler. I kept a bottle of this in the kitchen because she needed it daily.
- Ignatia-Depression, worry, grief, disappointment, guilt. Postpartum depression. Hormones are intense! And after birth, a woman’s hormones are all over the place. Progesterone drops to near nothing, and oxytocin and prolactin are at their highest peak. Thank goodness because those are necessary for breastfeeding. However, the highs and lows can be tough to navigate. A few doses, up to daily doses of this one are so helpful to manage the emotions that come with the hormone fluctuations.
Sometimes a baby’s delivery is via a c-section. The list above is still just a necessary PLUS the remedies for surgery. I went into detail about that HERE.
For Mother and Baby Booklet
When the “Frye Baby Boom of 22-23” was starting, I started learning. I thought it would be so nice to have all the remedies a new mom could use right at her fingertips. I created this download and thought I could go one step further and put together a whole kit!
The booklet prints on 4×6 blank index cards. I purchased a shotgun shell case from Academy Sporting goods store. You can also purchase a similar box on Amazon. I had to cut down the cards to fit in the box. Using a spiral binder, I then bound the little notebook together and it fits perfectly in the top of the box! The booklet download also contains an image to stick to the top of the box as well as a placement chart for the inside.
The feedback I have gotten from my daughters, nieces, and friends has been overwhelmingly positive! They all love the ease and usefulness of the booklet. It makes a great gift.

I absolutely LOVED my Mother and baby kit!
It seriously got me through those first few weeks. My husband also loved how easy it was to flip through the booklet and be able to find the perfect remedy for me and our sweet baby!
